Toxic foods are poisonous to sugar gliders and should be completely avoided.

  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Lima beans
  • Chocolate
  • Rhubarb
  • Fruit pits
  • Apple seeds
  • Caffeine


Unsafe foods are dangerous to sugar gliders because they can cause harm or injury to the animal due to their attributes.

  • Cheese
  • Ice cream
  • “Bumpy” fruits and vegetables that are hard to clean (raspberries, broccoli, etc.)
  • Wild insects


Unhealthy foods won’t necessarily cause lasting harm to sugar gliders but should still be avoided because of the negative impact on their health.

  • Nuts (and other high-fat foods)
  • Lettuce
  • Pork
