TOXIC FOODS
Toxic foods are poisonous to degus and should be completely avoided.
- Rabbit food (may contain coccidiostat, an ingredient that is toxic to degus)
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
UNSAFE FOODS
Unsafe foods are dangerous to degus because they can cause harm or injury to the animal due to their attributes.
- Cabbage (causes bloating)
- Sugar and molasses (they can’t metabolize it)
- Starchy foods (too many carbohydrates)
UNHEALTHY FOODS
Unhealthy foods won’t necessarily cause lasting harm to degus but should still be avoided because of the negative impact on their health.
- Nuts and seeds (and other high-fat/high-protein foods)
- Fruit (high in sugar)
- Carrots (high in sugar)
