  • Vegetables and seeds to replicate a herbivorous diet
  • Dried insects to provide natural animal proteins
  • Added vitamins and minerals form a complete balanced diet
  • Net Weight: 1.75 pounds

Nuts are beneficial because they offer squirrels chewing exercise. They also provide natural proteins and essential fatty acids, both vital dietary components for healthy squirrels.

Vegetables and seeds are common in herbivore's diet. Since squirrels are predominantly herbivores, sweet potatoes, corn, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, apples, and rose hips are all used in Squirrel Complete to replicate natural flavors.

Animal protein in the form of dried insects such as crickets, mealworms, and black soldier fly larva are incorporated into this diet. Squirrels in the wild will typically consume a number of insect species as sources of protein.

Vitamins and minerals are added to this diet in the squirrel pellets ingredients to form a complete and balanced diet. If you squirrel tends to shy away from eating the pellets or clocks, it's suggested to include an additional vitamin or mineral such as Exotic Nutrition's Squirrel Booster (multivitamin) and/or Squirrel-Cal (calcium supplement) in the diet.

Natural sunlight for 1 hour per day in an outdoor cage or screen porch during warm months provides vitamin D and will help your squirrel healthy. Another option is to use an open window securely screened with aluminum screening or hardware cloth. Indoors, a full-spectrum light (FSL) for 8 hours per day is the net best option. Although it does not provide vitamin D, is it believe to have other health benefits

Squirrels are rodents and unlike human teeth, a rodent's teeth will continuously grow. Squirrels need safe & healthy toys or treats to chew on to keep their growing teeth groomed. The pellets in Squirrel Complete will help with tooth grooming, but it's also suggested to use apple sticks, chew toys, and a pumice chew block to help grind teeth down during use.

It does seem to have way to many pumpkin seeds and rodent blocks. I change it once or twice a week but save the left overs for birds out side. He has four other feed cups and the shelless mixed nuts are always gone first. - Karen K.

This is a great product for squirrels. The only failure is the rodent blocks. As with another review, the squirrels do not eat the rodent blocks. It's almost as if they can tell it's human processed junk. However, I think there is a rabbit that comes around to eat them, and I have seen crows peck at them. The squirrels usually need to see 1 brave squirrel eat the pumpkin seeds before they start digging in, but completely eat those. As with any seed shells, it's a bit messy to clean up, but it's nutritious and that is the important part. The dried worms appear to be eaten. They take the peanuts. However, they don't seem to like the corn. I have tried other bags and corn is just not something squirrels will eat. I think my neighbors mouse is eating it though. Overall, 80% of the feed is eaten by the end of the day, so that's great. - Derrick G.

by CHRISTINAG on September 20, 2021

I don't particular like it. The bag is mainly pumpkin seeds and rodent blocks. The squirrels won't touch the rodent blocks at all. We took a hand full of this product and put it out on the fence for the wild squirrels and they won't eat it either. - Christina G.

I buy it because it is the only thing of its kind available, but I feel like the quality has gone down since I originally started buying it. I feel like it is kind of like mixed nuts that are 90% peanuts. This stuff is 90% pumpkin seeds. -Ann W.

I feed squirrels on my deck, and they won't eat this at all. They won't even touch it. -Diane L M.

[Response from Seller: Thank you for your review Diane. We're sorry to hear that the wild squirrels on your deck won't eat this food. Squirrels are natural foragers in the wild, so they are usually pickier than other animals and won't always eat every type of food you try to feed them. If they have plenty of choices of food available to them, they will simply choose to eat whichever type(s) they have a preference for.]

My pet squirrel didn't like this product. He wouldn't eat one thing out of the bag. Would not buy again. -Valerie P.

[Response from Seller: Thank you for your comment Valerie. I'm sorry to hear that your pet squirrel didn't like the product. The Squirrel Complete is made with tree nuts, vegetables, berries, seeds, and squirrel blocks. Pet squirrels can sometimes be picky eaters if they are expecting to receive one of their regular foods or treats versus a new food. I have created a mini nature preserve and dog path in my back yard for the neighborhood to enjoy(our house sits between two roads, so people can walk their dogs more safely) and everyone’s favorite part has to be our community of squirrels. I rescued one and once she transitioned to outdoors, she quickly made a family and now we have 8-9 daily residents in houses who play all day for the enjoyment of everyone. They get about half of their food from me and the rest I force them to forage. Even with my food(Squirrel complete) I place it all around the yard in different places so they still have to go through the foraging effort and retain their skills. I supplement this food with avocado and fruit in the winter and everyone is happy and healthy. I couldn’t have kept them all so well fed with a balanced diet without this food. Thank you Exotic Nutrition!! -Jason H.

Pumpkin seeds, walnuts, pecans and almonds are things my backyard squirrels will eat out from this. Corn and peanuts aren't the most healthy for squirrels, but they do eat the peanuts. The rodent blocks get chewed on a bit by some. They pretty much give the rest a paws down. -Max D.

My squirrel doesn’t seem to eat that much of it, and instead of throwing leftovers away I’ve been keeping in coffee can in fridge for outside birds. I’ve been Changing daily, should I wait until he eats it all. I also feed frozen thawed out vegetables daily and fruits to along with 2-4 nuts daily. I put pinch of calcium powder on veggies to and he’s beautiful and soft as a rabbit but just want to keep him healthy. I also feed him one picky bite square daily. -Karen K.

by QueenieKittie on October 4, 2020

It's alright if you need a starting point to see what your squirrels enjoy eating. My squirrels didn't eat the meal worms, crickets, rodent blocks, actually might be easier to just say they only enjoyed the pumpkin seeds almonds, and walnuts. Instead I've just been buying them fresh veggies fruits seeds/nuts that are unsalted and sweet cattle feed pellets for extra nutrition. Better for them in the long run.
