Dried Calci-Yum Worms (black soldier fly larvae) offer your pets an all natural calcium rich treat. Black soldier fly larvae are considered the best new alternative for incorporating calcium and protein into an animal's diet. During its larva phase, the black soldier fly feeds off various kinds of organic material, converting this to proteins. This is why Calci-Yum Worms have such a high nutritional value. Excellent source of protein and calcium for chickens, guinea hens, ducks, turkeys, robins, sparrows and other wild birds.

  • High in protein to support strong and healthy growth.
  • Naturally sun-dried to maintain their nutritional value
  • Store for a year or longer, no refrigeration necessary!
  • Can be offered straight or mixed with other foods to make a custom blend. Place in a feeder or sprinkle on the ground to encourage natural foraging behavior.
  • Suggested forage toys to put treat inside: HERE

Healthy treats have several benefits for both pets and pet owners. Treats can lend variety to an otherwise monotonous diet, provide good exercise for teeth and jaws, and add behavioral enrichment for animals that spend their lives in a small, limited environment. Most importantly, treats form a connection between pets and pet owners, assisting in bonding and training.

INGREDIENTS: Black Soldier Fly Larvae (Hermetia illucens)

GUARANTEED ANALYSIS: crude protein (min) 45%, crude fat (min) 35%, crude fiber (max) 8%, moisture (max) 8%, calcium (min) 3%.

FEEDING RECOMMENDATION: This product is a treat and should be fed sparingly, it is not a substitute for a regular, balanced diet. Offer treats 2-3 times per week or as a small portion (less than 10%) of the main diet. Treats may lead to health issues like obesity when overfed. If your pet is not consuming its regular balanced diet, withhold serving treats until stable eating habits resume.

IMPORTANCE OF CALCIUM: Research has shown that natural feed with balanced Ca:P ratios increases animal health and contributes to stronger bones and shiny feathers. Calcium is especially important for laying birds because a lack of it can result in poor laying, soft shells, and can cause behavior problems such as egg eating as the bird tries to recoup the much needed calcium.

Love the product, but hate the new packaging. It's prettier, and more professional, mass produced looking, but the bags are difficult to open all the way to avoid spillage, they don't reseal, and they're too small. -Matt S.

Haven't opened my first 20 lbs of dried BSF larvae from E.N. just yet. I ordered them well in advance of running out - my 11 laying hen-ducks would not forgive me if that were to happen! They run to the back door every time it opens in the hope that a BSF treat might happen. Through the window in the bag, if I were a duck, I would see they look big and fat! I don't doubt for a second they will be fabulous; and, at a very competitive price. Thank you! -Deborah E..

Read the reviews on this product as I thought by the description it might be good for blue birds but see that others have tired this Cali-Yum and their blue birds would not eat them. So I am sticking with the regular meal worms as I really love my blue birds and don't want to see them go somewhere else to feed and nest. Thanks customer reviewers your comments are very helpful. -Mary Ann B.

I must have the "strangest" chickens out there because my girls IGNORE the Calci worms. I finally mixed it with regular meal worms and they eventually ate them , but totally surprised after all the the positive reviews - just I'll stick to basic meal-worms -Karen J.

I am always trying to increase the calcium in my chickens’ diet. They won’t eat oyster shells, but they love these and will come running when they hear me shake the container. This more than justifies the higher cost. -Barbara S.

My chicks and ducks love these worms. -Christina A. H.

Tried these for the chickens for the first time. So far they go for these first before any other treat. Less volume than mealworms, but price is good and with the calcium I know they will get it. Never sure with the oyster shell. -Le Ann H.

My blue birds will not eat these. The Calci-Yum Worms sat in feeder for a week and were hardly touched. I put regular dried mealworms in the feeder and they came back and devoured them. -John

Prices better than mealworms, and my girls love 'em

by on January 11, 2018

Decided to try it as an alternative to mealworms. Needless to say, our chickens much preferred the mealworms, but at least it made the mealworms last longer.

I like to vary my chickens' diet and these are an excellent addition. They are an important source of calcium, in addition to the oyster shells I give my girls, and, as I understand, important in that they are a source of necessary calories for the winter months.

I was feeding my chickens dried meal worms from China and was trying to find a product farmed from another area. Calci-worms are from Canada and aid in making harder egg shells. The chickens did not seem disappointed when I first fed them the Calci-worms and love them as a treat. The birds come running when I shake the bag they are in! They are also a very good value.

Our chickens have been getting Exotic Nutrition's dried mealworms for several years. I have now added the Calci-worms to the mix. Some of the chickens head for the Calci-worms first, while others eat the mealworms first. Something for everyone, and in the end, nothing is left!

Been using these mixed with dried mealworms for chickens and guineas for a couple of weeks. They clean up the mealworms first and seem to eat these only grudgingly, and their popularity has not shown any sign of improving as of yet. These may be great nutritionally, but if you are looking for a treat food, our birds clearly prefer the mealworms. Price per pound on these is better than for mealworms, but be aware these are also denser, so the volume is like half for the same weight.
