I purchased this cage as a major upgrade for my two chinchillas. For the past year and a half they’ve been in the cheapest 4 level cage I could find on Amazon. After building it it’s everything I paid for and more. The acrylic scatter guards with the holders built into the sides of the cage are ingenious. The locks are secure and work great. Everything is very solid and I plan to have this cage for a long time. I also purchased the chin sprint wheel and am blown away at how well it spins and how more quiet it is than the one that I spend $50 more for than last year. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because some of screws during the build were very hard to line up and had to be screwed in with a power drill even after very careful lining up and shifting, which was honestly stressful. So not the perfect building experience but still manageable for two people in a good amount of time. The instructions were simple enough to follow and the video was also helpful. I recommend this cage to anyone who wants to spend $100 more to get a product that will last. I am going to continue to purchase products from exotic nutrition, and am completely satisfied with what I paid for! - Branden W.

Overall I really like this cage. Shipping was fast and the cage was well packaged. I believe all parts were included but I had a lot of parts that I am not 100% sure where they were suppose to go. Pro: the cage is visually appealing. The built in support bars for the included scatter guards is an amazing feature I really like it. I like how the scatter guard sits level with one of their bars so my Degus can't chew them. The size is wonderful! It was much taller then I expected but I love the size for the value. It has metal pans for both levels with a slot and door to slide and close it in. The bars are sturdy and well made in comparison to my chins feisty ferret cage. I purchased a four story and love that they included all the parts to make it one whole cage or two separate levels.
Con:
I wish they offered additional scattergaurds for the shelf ledges. The doors for the pans could secure a little better. I worry about my critters finding an escape. Just 2 extra latches could make the door super secure. I wish they had magnets on the doors as a safe guard if you left the cage unlatched. The panels could be made with a little more care as lining the holes up to secure them is not an easy task. We had 3 different holes that did not line up and we were unable to secure it with screws. The cage is still sturdy but I don't like knowing I spent so much on something that doesn't properly line up. The assembly instructions are garbage. The sizes of the screws and pieces are hard to tell to know what goes where. Their online videos to build do not have the current style they do not show you what hardware goes where. I spent a lot on this cage I expect good institutions or up to date videos that explain what hardware is being used where as well. Customer support was not open very late. It was 5pm eastern time and I had no one I could immediately contact for support. When support did reach out to me the next day they were less then helpful and were not sympathetic to the issues I had with the cage. Overall I think my money was well spent. Just be prepared to be on your own building it. I hope they make changes to the issues if they do I would be willing to give 5 stars. - ARIELE E.

I give this actually 4.5 stars :)
The only reason I'm sad is that both doors do not open. Just have to work with it bc the construction is so much better than my Critter Nation old one.
It's a bit smaller set up, however our three ratties love it. Totally recommend! Maybe in time, we will buy an extra level so they can live in a SUPER (6-Level) mansion 😉 🐀🐁🐁 -Rachel W.

This cage is very well constructed - very sturdy. My rats enjoy all of the space, and I appreciate the guards on the main levels to keep bedding from spreading all over my floor. I also appreciate how you can build up as your critter-family grows. Would recommend. - Cheryl T.

Overall, i absolutely love this cage. But like any product, it has some flaws. The instructions are quite vague, so figuring out what goes where was a bit of a struggle. Even the online video doesn't help, as they don't go into detail either, but in the end not too hard. Most of my peices fit together good, but one was so off that i couldn't put a bolt in it. Luckily its in a place that it didn't really need it. One acrylic piece came cracked, but not enough to become useless. The most irritating part is that it came with a wrench to help, but it didn't actually fit the nuts, so it was completely useless. One of my doors came off, and it took about an hour to figure out how it was attached. And even with the acrylic, bedding still falls out due to the tray not being attached to the cage. It falls out of the crack made by the tray. Even with those little issues, i still 100000% recommended this cage. Its all metal, so no need to change anything out, no wire bars as flooring, so no uncomfortable rats with bumble foot. This website provides replacement parts for cheap, so if anything goes wrong, it can easily be ordered. My cage was ordered 1/6/22 and it arrived 1/8/22 so it came SUPER quick. Overall, the cage is amazing, and its way better than any competitors cages. My rats absolutely love it, and with all this space i can add more to my mischief! -Tyler K.

This thing is cheaply made and they know it. That’s why it says their warranty doesn’t cover broken welds. Which of course mine has plenty of. This thing didn’t last 6 months, and now I’m constantly trying to come up with makeshift things to stop my prairie dog from getting out of this thing. Don’t waste your money on a company that doesn’t believe in their products. -Jason G.

Two years ago I considered the Critter Nation (CN) and the Exotic Nutrition Mansion Cages. I was concerned about the CN's plastics, but they claimed the trays and shelves were "chew resistant." There were also some reviews that said the Mansion was difficult to assemble, so I picked the Critter Nation. After two years, I have upgraded to the Mansion. Here is why.
I purchased the litter guard and the shelf covers with the CN at extra cost. The litter shield with critter nation is flimsey and difficult to secure. Chew resistance is provided by adding felt shelf covers (also at extra cost), but they catch everything. I did not like picking off the hay and droppings prior to washing them. Eventually I stopped using the covers, and my chinchilla started chewing. After a year, I had enough and ordered the Mansion.
First, assembly was not complicated. It takes more time because everything is screwed together rather than snapped together. Unlike the screws in the CN, The Mansion uses machine screws that go into inserts welded into the panels. Everything on this cage is metal with one exception, the scatter shield. It has not been an issue, and I don't foresee this being one in the future because the acrylic panels are external and the horizontal bars are tightly spaced. The system is ingenious. Some may find the CN easier to assemble, but I believe the only reason the Mansion would give difficulties is if the acres are tightened before all parts are aligned.
Pro tip: loose fit the parts in a step before tightening them, then move to the next step.
My only regret is that I did not buy the Mansion the first time. No chinchilla cage should have plastic. -Robert H. (Independence, MO)

I love that it's all metal making it very easy to clean with warm water
The worse problem I had early on was some of the bars have fallen off - I know my sugar gliders aren't strong enough to break metal bars.
Also, the inside metal ladder has dug into the floor tray (over several months) to the point where there's actual holes - perhaps some kind of rubber tips on the bottom of the ladder would prevent this. -Gina A.

I like the cage but mine didn't come with the acrylic mess guards so my ferrets just make a huge mess. I have looked online for mess guards but can't find any that fit this cage. I thought this website would sell them separately but it's not listed anywhere. -Jennifer A N.

Absolutely pain to assemble alone! Other than that, its great. I wish both front pieces opened for cleaning. We've had it for almost 2 years now and the door locks are coming lose. We will be moving in a couple of months so I'll buy a new one then. Even with the small issues I mentioned definitely the best small mammal cage in the market. We have 2 chinchillas. -Tanis I.

Overall, the cage is great! It's super spacious, and the rats love it.
Assembly was fairly easy when building the bottom half. My only complaint there is that the parts -- especially the screws, which there are quite a variety of -- aren't labeled. The sheet has a legend telling you what parts are which and where where they go, but the actual pieces all come in one bag that you have to sift through. We (as far as I'm concerned, this is *not* something you can build on your own) followed the assembly video and kept everything pretty loose and maleable until it was assembled, which eliminated any issues with lining up the holes and the screws. That is, until we went to add on the second story.
Everything was running fairly smooth up until that point. The base of the second story lined up at *three* of the four holes, one of which we had to really pull and hold to screw in. The fourth was simply too crooked to put in a screw. Thankfully, the cage is *extremely* sturdy, so I wasn't concerned over the one missing screw, as attempting to lift/wiggle it didn't have much effect, if any.
The rest of the assembly went smoothly, and that was the only problem we ran into. Like I said, the cage is fantastic, even given the flaw in assembly.
Other reviews complain about difficulty reaching the far left corner of the cage because of the one door placement, but I find that it's not too big of an issue, and it's quite easy to reach anyway since the door is so large. We've had no issues since putting it together ~1mo ago and quite love the upgrade from a jury-rigged monstrosity. -Kendra P.

The best cage for my chinchilla! She is in love with all the room she has now to jump and play. Only downside was putting it together. There were extra screws and some that weren’t there at all. I’m putting my cage together now. I bought the newer version of the four level mansion so on the video it shows the older versions stand but doesn’t matter the instructions are great and I’m having no trouble at all putting it together by myself it’s the sturdiest cage I've ever had so far I love it !!! I love this cage but setup was miserable. Labeling the screws would help and I'm sure I used the wrong screw in some places but it's still sturdy. The biggest issue was there were a few holes that didn't align. I struggled with it for a couple hours and very nearly put everything back in the box until I hammered it into place barely.
But with it setup, my chinchilla loves it and can't chew through the metal like he did in the crappy petsmart cage. I just wish there was a bit more quality control on the hole placement.

We purchased the double mansion cage, and really like it. I especially like that the trays are metal instead of plastic. One aspect I do not like is there is only one door on each level. It is challenging to get to the back of the left side of the cage, and of course, that is where our rats love to potty! We had no problem putting together the cage. The plexiglass is very helpful in keeping pieces parts from falling out of the cage. The edges were still rough from being cut, but they are on the outside of the cage. Our two rats love the extra space. I like that the cage is on wheels, and they move easily on our carpet. Overall, I recommend this cage to others with the warning that the doors are only on one side.

I bought this cage with high hopes to replace my 15 yr old cage, but the design of this cage is definitely not made well for chinchillas. The quality of the metal, design and size are definitely not worth $289. Only one door on each level opens making it very difficult to clean the left side of the cage and shelves. The spacing of the bars do not fit most of the accessories. The stairs going from the top level to the lower level are too steep, the steps fall out and the smaller shelves are way to small with the screws sticking out. This cage does not allow for the room my 2 chinchillas need to jump and run around for safety. It's much smaller than the midwest cage that I had that functioned much better than this. I've had chinchillas for 20 years and will be going back to the midwest deluxe critter nation double unit. I'm out the money for this cage because they won't take a return on the cage because my chinchillas have been in it for 1 week but the safety and quality of life for my chinchillas is more important. -Carla Z.

We only just started using this cage so I can't say if i love it or not but I am excited to see how it goes. One MAJOR flaw is that there is not grate at the bottom of the cage and our [sugar gliders] are running around directly on the bedding tray. This is unlike other cages we have purchased from EN so I was pretty disappointed. I wish there was at least an add on we could purchase to fix this. -Sarah S.

I love this cage. It’s got tons of room for my chinchillas & safe even for newborn chinchillas. If you want to have this as 2 separate cages you need to order an additional tray with no hole. Works great for breeding chinchillas so you can separate the male & female when you don’t want to breed or if you have 2 pets that don’t get along.
The only thing I’m not crazy about is the bedding goes everywhere because it gets kicked out of the cage. I’m going to try fleece liners as I think that would eliminate this problem. -April F.

An absolute nightmare to put together. A lot of the parts don't fit properly because of the metal being bent so we had to hammer them in. Nothing has labels on it. We couldn't even screw everything in that was suppose to be screwed on because things not lining up exactly or a stripped nut. Really disappointed was really looking forward to this. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart on us. The only thing that was good was the shipping. -Mimi H.

My daughter loves this cage for her three rats! Seems to be well built and the rats can not chew through any part of it. Assembly was fairly simple but they should label the parts to avoid confusion and expedite assembly. The only other thing that I would change is the two metal shelves are meant to be put in "upside down" so the platform has a lip to hold bedding, etc but the screws protrude through and I was afraid that they may cut or scratch one of the animals so we put them in the other way. also the ladders screw into the shelves so you can not reconfigure the ladder to a different spot to place a shelter, etc. I also read the reviews and agree there needs to be some sort of cage guard to prevent bedding from being thrown out of the cage. -Mark S.

I went back and forth about buying this cage because of how expensive it was but after getting this thing I could not be happier. The quality of the cage shows from the moment you open the box. It goes together with ease and it’s super solid. My chins barely make any noise running around in it. Excellent cage for rodents. I have degus and they love it. The only thing preventing a 5 star Rating is they kick bedding out of it and there's no cage guards made for the cage. We made our own and it helps alot. Some bedding still escapes. Good things is there are no plastic pieces that can be chewed on the entire cage!! -Connie P.

Using for my new baby chinchilla. The bar spacing is perfect as she can't escape like the last cage we had. I got the ramp cover for the ramp between top and bottom section to protect her little feet. Works great. Other ramps not on as chinchillas jump quite well. Lots of room and the set up was easy enough. Just know, this comes in 2 boxes and they might not be delivered together. -Dorothy R.

The cage is a nice size and gives animals (if you have multiple) their own space while allowing them to also interact. Unfortunately many screws stick out. Although they are flat, I worry that some animals could hurt themselves on them. Overall very happy with it and pairs lovely with the Corner Metal Platform (sold separately) that I felt were too thick/big for the Congo cage. Do note that the cage ships in two parts so you may receive them on separate days. Only other gripe is the stairs attached to middle platform, you have to remove them to clean the trays and they can be a pain to reattach. -Kaitlyn H.

Too expensive for the poor quality metal. Before my first cleaning of the cage. The screws were stripped because the screw holder in the half level platform had gotten loose, staying tight to the screw but not the level it's attached to. Forcing me to maime the cage just to get it out. There is no fixing that problem unless I get a new shelf. So now I only use one. I also use wood plank shelves (from the pet store) and my 1.5 lb. chinchilla somehow weighs it down so much that a bar has snapped off. He enjoys his home so it's whatever. But paying over $200 for it to not stay quality for more than a few months is completely ridiculous. -Louis D.

I am a bit disappointed in this cage. After spending $200+ dollars on this cage because it was all metal and stated it was chew proof and will last the lifetime of my pet. Well in less than 6 months a piece of the cage wire broke and my squirrel can stick his head through the gap it leaves and I am afraid he's going to get his head stuck and come home and find him dead. I have had several of the cheap cages and he's chewed up the plastic shelf but the wire has never fail. Well here is my first update; they wrote me back telling me that the cage wasn't designed for my ground squirrel...or prairie dog as some call him, but they said they would sell me a new panel! Good cage with some minor flaws
Hinge for doors is a bad design had to buy some washers, 1 of the 4 wheel casters didn't thread into the base the hole was drilled to big i am going to either weld it on or use epoxy. And locks don't line up perfectly. Little disappointed especially when spending $200+ on a cage. -Caleb R.

This was my dream cage for about four months and when I got my first job over the summer, I spent about 2 paychecks on this cage because I loved it so much. I have only had it for about two and half months and today one of the bars broke. I am extremely disappointed. You would think an all metal construction would be reliable and last a lifetime, but it seems I was mistaken. -Shandril W.

Once built we really like the 4-level mansion. Instructions could be a little better - took us about 2.75 hours to do as a couple of pieces had to be moved. To make this the ideal cage - need some type of barrier around the cage to keep bedding in. -Terri G.

I am using this cage for 2 Degus. They love all the space! I love that they can't chew up the metal trays! My one concern was them kicking their litter out of the cage and on to the floor. Therefore I cut and attached a 5" tall piece of plexiglass around the lower base. It worked great! -Dan H.

My mansion cages arrived in a timely manner. Although the paper instructs were kind of difficult to follow I got everything together just fine in about 2 hours. My female chinchilla loves her new home. And now I'm thinking about getting her a buddy, being there Is tons of room in the cage. Didn't come damaged or with missing screws or bolts. Very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend this cage to anyone with a chinchilla. -David P.

I do absolutely love that this cage is all metal - the plastic garbage on the market is just that - garbage that cracks & stains. This cage is also extremely easy to clean. My only complaints are the ladder going from the 1st to 2nd sections comes off easily & is somewhat heavy bringing serious concerns for my sugar glider’s safety should it fall on them & there is a very sharp edge on one of the corners of the cage. I also would have appreciated assembly instructions as the paper only showed what was in the box but did not explain what went where. -Hope

This cage is fantastic! I have 3 little rattos living in it now and this cage exceeds all expectations I had for it.
It is incredibly sturdy with its fully metal construction, very spacious, and well engineered.
I never have to worry about my rats escaping and they are much happier in this new cage than their last.
It took about an hour or so to assemble (not difficult), and was well worth the effort.
I’d recommend this cage to anyone looking for a strong, happy, spacious home for their little critters.

I purchased this cage for my prairie dog. He loves it! Plenty of space for toys, bedding, & feeding! I love the pull-out metal trays (he is a chewer) and ease of cleaning! It is also very well built & very nice looking as well!!! -Lanna S.

I've had the cage for two months now, ever since I unexpectedly received a second chinchilla. It was very easy to put together, and I've always had a good experience with the company. It shipped pretty fast, and is very light weight and easy to roll. Right now I am actually only using the bottom half of it and the top half for storage until my baby chin gets older. The bar spacing keeps baby chins from getting through, the solid metal pans in the bottom mean no chew hazard for the chins. Easily outfitted with many wooden ledges. Highly recommend this cage; however, I removed the wire ladders as chins sometimes get their feet stuck, which can be dangerous for them. -Lauren

Our chinchilla loves her new cage. This cage was very easy to assemble, arrived undamaged, and fit together perfectly, nothing needing to be rigged. There is plenty of space and room for her running wheels, bowls, and toys. This cage will last throughout her lifetime and then some. Rolls easily, the spacing of wire prevents chewing outside of the cage. So far, the bar ramps have not been an issue. Very pleased this product is chew proof and without plastic. I purchased this for my chinchilla Zoey an she loves this cage. I had to modify the cage to some degree for a chinchilla. The ramps are nicely built but the are bar ramps. The design of this mansion is better than I have seen on my search for a cage like this. The bedding pans and shelfs are steel not plastic which I was really pleased about. Chinchillas chew plastic... But most manufacturers of cage for small pets always use plastic or have bars for the floor not great for small pets feet.
The modifications I am doing for this system is much less than I would had to for other brands out there. I would recommend this cage system to anyone looking for this type of a cage. -David

Excellent cage for rats and other small pets. Spacing between the bars is 1/2" so nobody is escaping! We bought this model because it is all-metal construction, no plastic. All pieces fit together well and are secured with machine screws into threaded inserts so no wrench needed. All surfaces are smooth and powder coated, We got the two-story model which is more than enough room for our 3 pet rats. We like the slide out trays which make cleaning easier - these are sturdy sheetmetal with about a
1- 1/2 '' lip. All around an excellent well-built sturdy cage.

This is what I expected when I ordered. A fantastic cage. Easy to assemble. Well made. I am loving the quality from the latch to every inch of the cage. I had one area I had to deal with. It looks good in any room and you don't have to hide it. Shows like a mansion! Just a perfect cage. Buy it!

Received it before its estimated delivery. Was shocked at how well made and heavy the pieces where. The rollers are well built and roll very smoothly. The size is a perfect size for my furry. The cut out has smooth edges, the 3 ladders are very well built and the animal safe powder coat is amazing. The two doors are a very good size and I can reach all areas of the inside with no problem and it makes it really easy to clean. The spacing between the bars is 1/2 inch which is perfect for small or large furrys. It is very nice to buy something and it be totally worth every penny spent on it. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that wants to purchase something really solid and well built. I did not hesitate to give it all 5 stars!

I will start by saying that I am not a fan of China made products. Where possible I look for items made in America! That said, this kit was extremely well made, looks great and was straightforward to assemble. When assembled, it looked just like the picture and functions as designed. In the cages packing, everything was protected and not a single ding or damage. That's the way it should be. So my hedgehog (Junior) now has a mansion to live in and it's something that's easy to use and clean.
