This makes my second one of these cages and my degus love it. Had to buy a second one because my colony has grown. This one is slightly different than the one I previously purchased couple of years ago but the upgrades are nicer. Extremely sturdy and well built, there is no way these guys are going to chew out of these and it will last them for a very long time. -Ashley M

Once it's together, it is rock solid BUT I agree with past reviews. It took me hours to figure out the assembly instructions and I'm usually really good at these kinds of things. Also, it is nearly impossible to do by yourself without getting super sweaty and frustrated. Disassembly is just as challenging and storage is difficult once it's broken down into pieces because its really heavy and bulky. I'd recommend this cage if you are a total critter lover and plan on having babies that live longer or will likely keep replacing your lost friends once they've passed on. Otherwise, it's probably more effort than its worth.
Again, it is still a great product but not without some technical difficulties! - Anna K

Cage is great. However, the instructions for assembling the cage are horrible! It will take you quite some time to figure it out and you will probably need two people to get it done. - Hannah F.

Great product. Use for hamster but actually may use for sugar glider bc of the design. It came with damaged bars after I specifically asked for better packaging bc every product I've ever bought from here has little, bad or no package protection in the boxes. Which is a shame bc they have really good products. - Amber R.

Chinchilla had unexpected babies so I bought this cage to go with the addon I already have. I previously bought a 3 tiered (6 level mansion) from them. I figured I could just have 2 cages with 2 tiers each to separate the males and females. Turns out they changed their cages and they no longer fit with the old ones. No where on the website did I see them mention the change. I now have to bite a shipping fee and a 10% fee due to opening it. Also the one shelf came damaged already. Loved the old version but very unhappy with this company. Get something more reliable. - Kim H.

Want to return it but u have a no return policy once its been open.....the design is horrible! Bottom tray is not stable among several other issues and very difficult to clean. Only had it 2-3 weeks and already regret buying it! If i could send it back for a refund i would but i cant because of the policy..... -Jullian R.

This cage is GORGEOUS! I have the critter nation and was given 3 other brands when I rescued some degus. This cage is by far my favorite. It was cheaper than the critter nation, is all metal and came with poop guards (acrylic mess guards). I will only buy this for all future pets and will be upgrading all my babies cages! -Desiree A.

I just got 3 young rats, and I think this is definitely the best cage design out there. Plastic bottoms may work for some, but a lot of what I read said that if your rat is an avid chewer, they will chew through it. So an all metal cage was a must for me. Substrate (paper/aspen/soil) is much cleaner and better than fleece for rats' natural behaviors, and this was the ONLY cage I found with a metal bottom and scatter guards higher than an inch or two, so that I can fill the bottom with a couple inches of substrate and it stays in the cage. Setting it up was a bit challenging: the holes are difficult to line up at first, so it takes some finessing. But once we got it in that magic spot, it was really easy. I suspect this is common in a lot of cages. There was one small part of the bars I noticed slightly bent, but does not affect use at all. Otherwise seems very high quality construction. It would be nice to have two doors that opened, but I can deal with just one. I do wish that the casters locked because it rolls very easily, especially since we have it on a hardwood floor. I just wish there were more in stock - I would have purchased the 4-level right away but I'm waiting for the add-on unit once it's available. -Christen C.

Degus have to have a cage with no plastic because they are avid chewers. This was the only all metal cage we could find and are definitely pleased with it. It was easy to assemble, nice quality, and our degus love it! -Ashley M.

The cage makeup itself is great however the condition I received it in not so great. Not all was bad but, some parts were very visibly damaged for being brand new. Was hoping to have them replaced but, have never had a reply since I personally messaged the site. We will see if this changes future orders for us considering we order quite often for our pets. -Monica D.

I run a Nature program at a camp in Texas. I ordered two off these cages for my prairie dogs. Going on 5 months in their new cages and one of them decided he was going to break the cage bars from the top! I was hoping these cages were going to be a little structurally stronger. They are easy to clean and have been good until this happened. Luckily he didn't go far when he got out but it was a long week trying to figure out how to keep him inside. -Thomas G.

I was skeptical when I saw reviews that the cage wires were snapping, but I honestly really like this cage. I’ve had it for about 8 months, and I’m more than happy with it! The metal is good quality, no rust so far, and no snapping. One thing is that the ramp is a little loose, no matter how tight I twist the screw. And of course, my rats sling bedding out. So I switched to fleece. But other than that, this is the best cage I’ve ever owned! Definitely worth the price. -Gillian G.

The cage came bent in 2 places. I was able to bend them back enough to screw it in place. Bedding spills out no matter how much I use. Try should be about 2x deeper. I will have to figure out how to make some sort of spill guard for it. -Sara B.

Came defective. Sent photos and a detailed explanation to Exotic Nutrition at their request. For a very expensive cage, I have a reasonable expectation that it will assemble without issues. The instructions can be easier as well.

This cage has everything we were looking for and is by far the best cage anywhere on the market right now. All of the other cages that we have been looking at just weren't up to par. either had toxic plastic or other material, were not big enough, was not sturdy enough, and just didn't match our criteria. Our animals are our fur babies, we want the best for them so that they stay happy, safe, comfortable and healthy. This cage is amazing for the price, sturdy, safe, and totally worth it. The only things that I prefer are that it would of came with a food bowl that was safer and that FedEx was more careful with the shipping because ours came bent. We managed to straighten it out and it was still able to be put together but they could have been a little more careful. Other than that, shipping was super fast. The directions could have been better labeled with stickers so that assembly didn't take as long trying to figure out which piece was which but overall it was pretty easy to put together. Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase and will be buying the expansion for it at some point. -Stacie P.

This is by far better than any critter nation or ferret nation ..if you were considering those over the exotic nutrition cages..DON'T! All metal , no plastic and cheaper ...I was sold ...very sturdy cage and simple construction. -Dustin O.

I've had the cage for over a year now and I have 3 rats living in the 4 level and hedgehogs in the 2 level. I want to give it 5 stars because I really do LOVE these cages. I actually have 1 of the 4-level version and 2 of the 2-level that I either stack or keep separate depending on what animals I've taken in. The cages are durable, the wheels are sturdy, it cleans easy BUT one of the cage tops came broken (still usable for my hedgehog so I didnt bother exchanging) the corners of the inside of the pans are starting to rust, and the screws that are meant for holding up the ramp rusted incredibly fast and so bad even the lightest turn with my screwdriver stripped it. Despite all that I do TRULY love these cages and actively recommend them to my friends. I just also recommend to swap out that screw, costs only like 10 cents to do it

I just purchased this cage for my ferret that was always escaping from her other chintzy-made abode. I am extremely happy with my purchase of the "2 Level Mansion" from Exotic Nutrition. It did take two of us about 45 min-1 hour to put it together, but we were very impressed with how well everything lined up, and how really simple it was to put together. The materials are top-notch. Very durable and heavy duty iron, with a simple, but fun design. It holds her beautifully!! No jailbreaks! The retailer was fabulous as well. I received it a full 5 days before the projected arrival time. To anyone who owns a ferret (or any other furry little critter, for that matter!) - don't waste your time and money on anything less! -Suzanne P.

I bought 2 of these cages for my male and female rats. They love it and are a lot happier in it. The cage was easy to assemble, is very sturdy, and it came with a couple of food dishes which I wasn't expecting but am grateful for. One con, which I didn't realize until after it was assembled, was the bedding can fall out easily from all four sides near the bottom and on the second story platform. I used cardboard and cheap fabric to make a bumper and taped it along all of the sides and it helps keep in the bedding. Overall, I am very happy with this cage and plan on getting the expansion for it. Thank you! -Kelsi D.

I bought this cage for a group of three young pet rats. They climb around and utilize both levels. The cage was delivered very quickly, even with free shipping. It arrived in great shape, no bent or damaged parts (which unfortunately was a common experience with other companies in the past. I love the design, big door, two levels, sturdy construction. I appreciated the two large clip on feeders, too. The cage was simple to assemble, but allow yourself some time and read the assembly instructions carefully. Have had my gliders about 2 years. Had to repaint cage ... but it easy to roll into walk in shower and clean. If Id tried that sooner maybe paint would have lasted longer. there's just no way to clean it thoroughly unless you take it outside or inside a shower to scrub it. -David W.

Pros:
*It's really well made and looks attractive.
*The wheels are incredibly useful as our bunny goes on visits to other areas of the building fairly often.
*The shelf underneath is very handy for corralling supplies.
*It's a great size.
*The pull out tray is so convenient.
*The door is really nice and large and the latch on it is solid.
*Did I mention it's really well made? Because it really is.
Cons:
*For our bunny, the ladder and shelf just didn't work - it very well may for your critters.
*As is, the bedding flies *everywhere*. Unless you have a critter that treads very carefully in their home, you are *going* to have a mess. We went to the hardware store and bought plexi-glass which we attached to the bottom 5-6 inches all the way around. It is *much* nicer this way. Well meaning visitors can't poke our bunny when he is sleeping, which is an added bonus, but mostly, the bedding stays where the bedding belongs! If I were the manufacturer, I would absolutely look into adding this feature.
Conclusion:
*Once we removed the ladder and shelf, and added the plexi-glass, this was absolutely the perfect solution for our therapy bunny. We needed something portable, attractive, easy to clean, and most importantly comfortable for him to be in. This hits all the marks. He is very happy to be in it when not out in his playpen in the yard or visiting with those who need a little velvety love in their day. The pros definitely outweigh the cons and we are very happy with our purchase. Thank you!

I am using this for a ring-neck dove and with a few of my one items, this is working well for him to be upstairs with us this winter rather than in his too large cage in the basement. He sings to my parrot who is in a cage "next door" to his. -Judy Mowrer

This is a really nice cage, it doesn't wobble or feel unstable when put together and just overall seems well made. love that it's all metal, including the pans & second floor so nobody can chew it up. Put together pretty easily by myself, but I did need a hand attaching the 2nd floor platform, just because it was too hard to hold it in place and put in the screws at the same time. My only complaint would be that the spacing of the bars on the ramp seem really wide for a tiny animal like a rat. My solution was to sew a little cover that slips over it. Besides that it's perfect.
