My squirrel Sneaky is one year old. Last week, he stood very close to be to show that he has muscle spasm and did not feel well. He normally jumps up and down when he sees me. I look up at this exotic vet website to find out that Sneaky had calcium deficiency. If I do not give him calcium supplement, he will eventually die from Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD). Almonds are high in calcium and protein, better for squirrels. Any other foods: Sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts, corn, etc. will cause MBD.
I bought the calcium supplement and multivitamin from here. I wet 1/2 of a walnut and dip it into the mixture of calcium & multivitamins for them to coat the walnut. Sneaky ate one serving a day. After a week, he started jumping up and down and circling his tail when he sees me. This saved Sneaky's life! In the wild, they chew on bones and get plenty of vitamins. My squirrel lives in an apartment complex. He became so modernized and is used to the luxury amenities like swimming pool. -Lynn D.
